STREET WISE

SYNOPSIS

By Julie Ann Fricker

This novel is about Frankie Street, a young woman living in Galveston Texas. From the very beginning, we can tell that Frankie is no ordinary kid. Being a product of her environment, she has to fight for everything she wants in life including the right to be respected as a motorcycle mechanic, her chosen profession.

From the abusive father to the guys who try to victimize her, she wants only to live her life in whatever manner she would choose. By anyone=s standards, Frankie Street hangs out with a rough crowd, yet and still, she is fiercely protected by those whom she calls friend. There comes a time in her life when a few of her friends have to do whatever it takes to protect her. Even when protecting her means breaking the law.

One constant throughout this story is a relationship she has with a childhood friend. The book follows their relationship from its humble beginnings during the confusing tangle of their teenage years on into adulthood.

The feelings Frankie has for Gil, keep her heart firmly rooted in Galveston, even during her self imposed exile. These feelings become the motivation for returning to the island she has always loved. But the road back home proves to be filled with its risks.

After several years and even more detours, Frankie rides back onto the island only to discover some things have irrevocably changed.  Once settled in she finds the courage necessary to begin rebuilding the life she once knew.
